BCC Pumphouse Restoration

The BVPF is proud to support the project to restore the BCC Pumphouse at the 9th tee at the Bellport Country Club.

The historic Pump house at the Bellport Country Club stands proudly as one of the few remaining pump house structures on Long Island.  Built in 1870 on the Otis-Edey estate, it provided water for the farm, gardens and main house.

In 1998, the pump house was partially restored by replacing the roof. This restoration was paid for by friends and family of Richard Warburton for whom the building is dedicated. Richard served on the golf commission for many years and was an avid golfer.

The building’s structure and siding  has been in desperate need of repair. It was the goal of the committee to raise $10,000 in order to make the necessary improvements. Perhaps one day the historic pump house might serve as a halfway house, serving refreshments to the golfers as they head for the back nine.

The Pumphouse Restoration Committee held a 9 hole golf outing to raise funds for restoration on June 15, 2015.

The fund raiser exceeded the goal of $10,000 thanks to all the individuals who participated.  Renovation work will begin in November 2015!

Friends Of Bellport Bay

The Bellport Village Program Fund is now working with the Friends Of Bellport Bay to seed Bellport Bay with over 100,000 oyster seeds and accomplish its mission described below.

  •  Collaborate with Cornell Cooperative Extension of Suffolk County (CCE) to plant shellfish within sustainable locations around Bellport Bay to help filter and improve water quality, create habitat and protect shorelines. The shellfish would be monitored by Cornell Cooperative Extension of Suffolk County (CCE) Marine program. Ridge Island has been chosen as a prime location.  FoBB has received a Research and Reporting Permit valid through Fall 2018 from Fire Island National Seashore to monitor oysters.  FoBB/BVPF has entered into an agreement with Brookhaven Town where the town will provide up to 100,000 oysters for 2016

  • Through a collaborative effort with Bellport Village assist the Village with their mandates to minimize direct storm water runoff into Bellport Bay.  A target is the municipal wastewater run- off system.

  • Educating and updating the public on the Bellport Bay eco-system - impact on re-seeding shellfish, impact of the New/Old Inlet, pollution mitigation strategies and results, etc.

  • Publish information for increasing public awareness and knowledge.

  • Contribute to the Village newsletter.

All donations to the Friends Of Bellport Bay will be allocated to its specific projects.

Bite Back.
Started Summer, 2012.

For too many years, Bellport residents and their guests have endured annoying and potentially harmful mosquitoes on our beaches. This growing infestation has lowered attendance, marred the experience, and severely curtailed use of the beaches.

In 2011/2012, the Bellport Village Program Fund secured permission from the Bellort Village Board of Trustees and the appropriate regulatory agencies to treat for mosquito control at Ho Hum and Mother’s Beaches. The plan uses Jeffrey Jenson (President, South Country Aboriculture, Inc.) to control the mosquito population using DEC approved environmentally responsible materials at both beaches at regular intervals.  Jeffrey has contributied the startup costs for this program and the BVPF has funded the remaining execution costs.  Implementation of this project began in May 2012, and has continued to this day.  Residents have been delighted with the success of this project.  This project also included buying and deploying green fly traps at both beaches.

The Osborn Park beautification Project

The Village has developed a master restoration plan for Memorial Park that will include landscaping, plantings, fencing, and a restored gazebo. A large portion of these expenses will be reimbursed by FEMA as a result of the damage caused by storm Sandy.

The BVPF has discussed with the Village the possibility of raising funds to ensure key aspects of this restoration can be completed. Specifically the BVPF has raised funds to purchase new beautiful heavy duty park benches called "The New York World's Fair Bench," picnic tables and Adirondack chairs to be placed in the Park in conjunction with the Villages initiatives to rebuild the Gazebo, landscape and grade the park and install sprinkler systems to avoid future run off damage.

Clean Sweep!

Every spring The BVPF engaged a company to clean the beaches at Mothers Beach and the Marina Playground beach.

Then we do another fast clean in the summer. This process removes larger rocks and debris that builds up over the winter at these beaches making them cleaner and softer.

Many thanks to Herman Lindau & Son/Long Island Beach Cleaning!
